If this ain't beauty, what is ?

What's the first thing that comes into your mind when you see the word misfit? Well, it might be a thing or someone who doesn't belong. Belong in what you might ask yourself. I'll attempt to explain, bear with me. It might not be easy.

There's a lot of things that this society deems as weird or even inappropriate, that when you do can make you be caged into that bottle of being a misfit. Say for example, while I was watching a show in some local television about a guy, who’s not only a model, but a male makeup artist, a really good one at that. A field dominated by females, my brothers and I wondered what can a man be doing in such a field(pardon for the primitive thinkingπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚) and somewhere from a point of utter ignorance even made some sentiments that I came to later think about as really insensitive. Most of us will jump to make such comments without really giving it a second thought.

Such a guy is among the many examples of the "misfit" narrative that I'm trying to push here. Thing is, there's beauty in being a misfit, even though most of us will never admit it.

Most of them are either made to be that way either by the society or by the choices that they make. Choice being part of day to day human life can impact your life in so many ways either positively or negatively. But just because misfits decide to make choices we mostly don't agree with, doesn't mean we play judge and jury. We should first look at both sides of the coin if we are to see how those choices affect them. This sometimes calls us to put ourselves in their shoes a feat most of us fail miserably at and just decide to point accusing fingers instead.

πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

Misfits have a hard time with doing a lot of what they consider to be normal to them, mostly due to the social implications it might have on them and the people they associate with. But how many of them do continue anyway with what they deem right? Almost all of them. They just do it. Whatever society thinks of them, we can go to hell for all they care. These people have high self-esteem, their confidence levels are unmatched, over the roof, and over time they have developed thick skins to bear with society's rigid stance and opinions on almost every topic controversial or not.

From our backgrounds especially being African, not to mean that westernization has completely taken over everything; some things can never be westernized, if in the society even from the simplest basic unit, a family, some things aren't talked about or say the head of the family forbids some topics, say sex education, from happening it won't happen. You just end up knowing such things by your own self. It's from such regressive cultures and schools of thought that promote misfit kind of behaviors. When you speak out and want your voice to be heard, or seek for a reason as to why such talks are not happening you might be met by hostility and even crucified for attempting to corrupt their "clean" minds but in essence it’s just trying to get people out of their cocoons.

These people also have a fair share of their problems amidst all the great things they can achieve. Being misunderstood being the biggest of them all. Sometimes the message you intended to put across gets perceived in the wrong way and you end up rubbing off people in the wrong way. This might land you in a lot of trouble especially with the "moral police". Luckily most of the time they are able to dust off and pick themselves up and continue as if nothing happened.

Being a misfit enables you to think widely and also not be caged in shallow thought processes, it gives you a wide array of choices and enables you to see a lot of things from wider perspectives and angles than "normal" people do. You're not constrained to a particular school of thought. You're open to new ideas and other realms of possibilities. If that's not the beauty of it, what is?
